Action/Taper

What is Action / Taper?

Action and taper refer to the way a rod blank bends. The tip action of any rod ultimately determines the casting accuracy. All Star rods are unique in the fact that the action/taper is an integral part of the construction of the rod, and not just sanded down after production. This means that very little sanding is required before the final assembly of the rod, assuring that the blank wall thickness is kept uniform from tip to butt, resulting in precise actions.

Most bass rod actions are usually rated fast to extra fast because this action generally provides better sensitivity and faster power for hooksetting. Moderate and moderate-fast rods will usually provide a little more casting distance and still provide adequate hooksetting power. Normally, the type of lure you use will determine the action of the rod you should use.

  • Extra Fast: Flex in the upper 1/4 of the rod blank
  • Fast: Flex in the upper 1/3 of the rod blank
  • Moderate: Flex in the upper 1/2 of the rod blank
  • Slow: Flex is from the lower 1/3 of the rod blank to the tip
